Lately, I’ve been trying out more non-makeup beauty products. You know, since I’m on my year long no-making-buying sabbatical. But all is well, because I’ve been able to find some surprisingly awesome beauty products.
I think I’ve overlooked great non-makeup beauty products for so long because makeup has always been number one for me. Now that I’m focusing more on the entire picture, it’s easy for me to see the true worth of other types of products… especially these surprisingly awesome beauty products.

Surprisingly Awesome Beauty Products
I’ve got a little somethin’ – somethin’ for everyone in this roundup, so grab a cup, pull up a seat and prepare for some rather useful information. First of all, what makes a surprisingly awesome beauty product? Well, it’s got to embody a few key factors: 1) it must take me by surprise, 2) it has to work, and 3) it’s gotta solve a problem… of which I have many. Now – onto the surprisingly awesome beauty products!
Blotterazzi by Beautyblender
First to bat is the Blotterazzi blotter by Beautyblender. Let me start out by saying this was an impulse purchase. I was having a girls weekend with my best friend, we stumbled into a Sephora, and it was just so cute I had to buy it. Once I got out to the car, I immediately face palmed myself. I don’t even have oily skin.
So, the Blotterazzi went unused for a while. Then, I decided to toss it in my purse, determined to find a use for it. Much to my surprise and happiness, I have FOUND A USE for this as a dry-skinned gal. It works PERFECTLY to retouch makeup. Oily or not, makeup settles throughout the day. Personally, I get those gross lines under my eyes from my concealer settling. A few dabs with the Blotterazzi and it looks like my foundation was just applied. Score one for surprising. Score one for it working. And score one more for it solving a problem.
Earth Therapeutics Cracked Heel Repair
Alright. I’m going there. Y’all, I have terribly dry feet. It probably has something to do with the fact that I haven’t had a pedicure in close to two years (I know, I know). But seriously, nothing works for me. I put lotion on them, sleep in socks (*insert grimace*), use pumice stones in the shower… and still, I have dry, cracked heels.
Right after Christmas, I took to Ulta with a giftcard from my in-laws and threw this in my cart, expecting it to fail, but knowing I had to try. When I made it up to the register, the lady ringing me up mentioned how she loved the product and that it actually works (SURPRISE!).
I wasted no time in testing it out. That night, I put it on my feet, slipped some fuzzy socks over them, and slept peacefully. I noticed a marked difference the next morning. I’ve been using it ever since and I no longer have cracks. Dare I say I have soft feet?
When I got it in, I was intrigued, but not sold. However, after working hard on an upcoming new project for my mailing list, I put it to good use and it proved itself to me. This little hunk of silicone gets the job done. I suggest you pick this sucker up.
There’s a fancy $20 version of this sold at Sephora. I can’t speak to its worthiness, but this lower cost option is superb. I was super skeptical about a cloth removing all of my face makeup. When I read the claims I think I scoffed, but because it was so inexpensive and my makeup remover has been irritating my eyes, I decided to give it a go.
Imagine my surprise when this actually removed my makeup… even my eye makeup. These makeup-off cloths seriously work. I am so glad not to have to use product on my face for everything. What’s more cost effective than that?
TruSkin Naturals Vitamin C Serum (+ Hyaluronic Acid)
This has been listed on a few “highest reviewed Amazon beauty product” articles. Because I’m focusing on my skin this year, I decided I needed to try this 5 star product. I didn’t think I’d be able to feel the difference, because I never can with serums. They’re just an expensive water I’ve occasionally added to my face before I moisturize. But, y’all, when I started using the TruSkin Naturals Vitamin C Serum I was shocked. I actually felt and saw my skin improving.
My skin tone is better, I haven’t had a breakout in weeks, and when I use it, I feel like my skin lifts. Does that make sense? It was worth every put of the $20 I paid for it, and I would pay more!
