Whoa. Hi. Yeah, it’s me. I know I’ve pretty much completely abandoned this space for a while, but I’m here and I’m hopeful to start getting some more consistent content up from now on. I thought since it’d been a while, I’d do a short life update. Afterall, a lot has happened recently!
Spring is Here
Spring is definitely here in Albuquerque, and I’m sorry I can’t say the same for some of you. I know the snow is old. But here we’ve started planting, the trees have leaves, and the birds are singing! Spring is my favorite time of year and it’s doing my heart SO GOOD spend some time outside.
I decided not to do veggies this year since I don’t want to have to mess with them when S is born. Even container gardening is a lot of work and I’d rather not add another thing to my plate with a newborn.
Speaking of newborn… we booked our babymoon! When John and I vacation alone, we opt for really low-key destinations, and the river is our favorite place to be. There aren’t a ton of river options in New Mexico, and we only have a few days to make the trip work, so we’ll be headed a couple hours up north to a cabin on the Pecos. We haven’t really had a chance to explore other parts of New Mexico, so we’re looking forward to this trip.
Photo from our last trip (probably a little drunk because #notpregnantyet):
When my in-laws visited last month, they brought with them the furniture we’re going to use for S’s room (minus the crib, which John built!). This furniture was my father-in-law’s childhood set and my husband’s, too. I really love that S will be the third generation, firstborn to use it. It’s nice wood, but it needed some updating, so we spent a weekend sanding it all down to the original wood, restaining, and sealing it.
It was a LOT of work, but it looks so fresh and nice now! I wish I would have taken photos before we started the process, but I was in total nesting brain and completely separated from blogger brain. Just take my word for it. 😉
Now that I’m on maternity leave for births for the rest of the year, I’ve started to really think about my own birth preferences. You might remember that we’re birthing in an out of hospital birthing center, but there’s a ton of other things to consider.
I’ve created an “in case of hospital transfer” list of birth preferences, and I can’t wait to go over them with our doulas in a few weeks. Right now, I’m pretty chill about the thought of birth. The fact is that you never really know how things are going to go. I have preferences, and I’d love to have as many of them come to fruition as I can, but some things are just completely out of our control and I recognize that.
I did just send my labyrinth off to be fired after glazing and I am pretty stoked about using it as a meditation tool in labor!
Certified Childbirth Educator Training
In February, I completed the classroom portion of my childbirth educator training, and I just sent in all the other documentation needed for certification! After it’s all reviewed, I’ll officially be a certified childbirth educator (CCE) and will be able to teach birth classes to expectant parents. I’m not entirely sure how I plan to go about that yet, but I love that it’s an option and I look forward to the opportunities that come with it.
So that’s basically it. I’ve been so out of the blogging scene I haven’t taken many photos or done a lot of prep work for posts, but that’s coming and I’m excited!
