This time of year I live for BBQ. I typically prefer beef because, well, I’m Texan… but smoked brisket isn’t always an option. (Uh… Hello, we live in an apartment!) But worry not. I don’t go long without my BBQ fix… I never thought I’d say this, but pork has come to my rescue. “Sorry” to my cattle farming father.
Since I embarked on this married life, I have learned to embrace the crock pot. I’ve been making this pulled pork for so long I can’t remember where I found the original recipe. This easy, 3 ingredient dish is my “ode to crock pot”. It’s my slow cooker sonnet. It’s the wind beneath my wings.
3 Ingredient Pulled Pork?
Yes my friends. 3 ingredients is all it takes. Trust me. I’m an expert.
One thing I really love about this recipe is the versatility. You have kind of a clean slate with the pork. You can add seasonings if you like, or don’t. Pair it with your favorite BBQ sauce, some potato chips, a hamburger bun, and you have a southern BBQ meal.
- 1 Pork Shoulder
- 1 Bottle Root Beer
- BBQ sauce
- Place pork shoulder in a crock pot and cover with root beer.
- Cook on low for 8 hours.
- Take pork out of slow cooker.
- Pull off fatty pieces if desired.
- Using two forks, shred pork.
- Add desired BBQ sauce to meat and enjoy in whichever way you choose!
What is your favorite BBQ dish? Are you a “take all day” BBQer or a crock pot BBQer?
