What is the best lipstick? Wow! What a question. Recently I’ve been approached by several people with questions like: I went to your blog to find your favorite x, y, z but couldn’t seem to find it. To which I reply something like: Well, I haven’t actually put out a post like that… I guess you can kind of say I’ve had a bit of commitment phobia when it comes to proclaiming my favorite lipsticks.
Clearly that has got to change. I put out some useful information here, but I’ve refrained from putting out a “favorites” list. I think I’ve been afraid that my favorites will change and then the lists will be rendered useless. I think I’m over-thinking that one. OBVIOUSLY my tastes will change as I explore new makeup. That’s just the nature of the beast, but sharing my favorite products with you I think is useful so that’s what I’m starting today. So, if you’ve ever wondered what my absolute favorite lipsticks are, you’re in luck.
I’ll be sharing what specific lipsticks I love and why I love them – are they the perfect shade? Do they have a killer formula? I’m diving in deep to outline why I love each and every lipstick on the list. As time rolls on I’m sure my list will change and when it does, I’ll be sure to update you with the changes! You may notice a few themes in my list. I tried to diversify as much as possible, but the makeup hearts wants what the makeup heart wants…
My Favorite Lipsticks for Fair Skin
Best Everyday Lipstick
For this lipstick, I thought about something that’s reliable. I thought about a lipstick being there for me – no matter what the occasion. I thought about the formula being super comfortable. I thought about the color working with many different color schemes. And the verdict?
It’s the perfect muted pink. It’s got some nude in it, but it’s pink enough to show some color and not wash you out. It’s a MAC lustre finish which means it’s super comfortable on the lips. It doesn’t dry them out. It’s creamy. It’s shiny.
MAC Syrup is a lipstick that you can wear all day, everyday and you won’t have to worry about a thing. It’s an apply it and forget it kind of shade. It’s not entirely longlasting, but it fades beautifully and it definitely doesn’t require a liner. You can apply it while you’re running into the grocery store it’s so easy to use! It works with so many makeup looks and it gives your lips a nice healthy color, too.
All-in-all MAC Syrup is the best everyday lipstick.
Best Girly Lipstick
What’s a girl without a *girly* lipstick? You know – the one you wear for girls nights or when you feel like putting on some extra-girly makeup. This lipstick had to make a statement. It had to be fun. It had to be flattering. The pick?
MAC Candy Yum Yum
This lipstick is the best bright pink lipstick out there. It’s long wearing (which makes sipping on cocktails- not checking your lipstick – the main priority when wearing it). MAC Candy Yum Yum also plays well with minimal face makeup. It’s super easy to pop onto a neutral face to jazz up a look. This is the perfect Happy Hour lipstick: take your makeup look from daytime to nighttime with just the change of lip color!
In the end, MAC Candy Yum Yum is where. it’s. at. for girly lipstick. Now go have a cosmo!
Best Bright Lipstick
What is life without the frequent bright lipstick? It took me to fall in love with these types of pops of color, but when I did I fell hard. I love bright lipstick because it completely steals the show. I can spend very minimal time on my face makeup and the look is completely put together when I put on the bright lipstick. What bright lipstick does it best?
Colourpop Chi Chi
A good bright lipstick is a few things: 1) it’s bright (duh), 2) it fades nicely, and 3) it enhances the look of luscious lips and downplays any dryness. Colourpop Chi Chi is officially a matte formula, but to me it has more of a cream finish, so it conforms to the lips well without showing imperfections. It’s a decently long-wearing lipstick. It doesn’t fade funky, meaning the color wears off evenly across the entire lip. And of course… this lipstick is BRIGHT.
Best “Your Lips But Better” Lipstick
Every girl needs a lipstick that enhances what the good Lord gave her. Natural lips are gorgeous, but sometimes they can get lost in a makeup look. Those are the times I look for a “my lips but better” lipstick to save the day. The color should mimic a natural lip color, so it shouldn’t stand out, but it should make an appearance. Get what I’m saying? Which lipstick saves the day?
Interestingly enough, I’ve heard that this color looks different on different people. On me, it’s a complete my lips but better color. It’s mauve, and it’s nude, and it’s natural. Personally, it’s a perfect match. If you’re looking for your perfect lips but better color, I’d definitely give this one a try but don’t be disappointed if it doesn’t work out the same way for you. It took me many years to find this guy.
Best Lipstick Formula
Boy oh boy. What a loaded question. Clearly this one is entirely subjective… but to me the perfect lipstick formula is: a) pigmented, b) non-patchy, c) comfortable, and d) moisturizing. What lipstick does this for me?
Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche Cayenne
So, the color is arguably delicious. It’s an orangey-red lipstick which I think is super flattering on my fair skin. The formula is like but-uh (that’s “butter” for all of you who don’t get my YouTube makeup reference). One swipe, and the color is full force so you don’t have to layer on the lipstick in order for the color to show. In fact, this formula does not skip over any portion of the lips. That’s one of my biggest pet peeves. I hate patchy lipstick. The Bite Beauty lipsticks are the complete opposite. Plus, this formula is moisturizing without being wet or slippery. Win-win.
So – yeah. I guess you can say I love MAC and Colourpop lipsticks. But hey – I put in a Bite lipstick, too! There are some great lipsticks out there and this list was hard to narrow down. Some honorable mentions are:
Maybelline Creamy Matte Lipstick in Mesmerizing Magenta – One of the most comfortable drugstore formulas. I love the creamy matte texture.
Milani Glam – A super fun purple fit for practically every skin tone! BONUS because it doesn’t make your teeth look yellow.
LORAC Pro Matte Lip Color in Mauve – Another great everyday shade. It’s comfortable to wear and it lasts for hours.
What are your favorite lipsticks for your skintone? Have you tried any of my favorite lipsticks for fair skin?
