I’ve learned a lot of things in my life. Some lessons were taught by academia. 2 + 2 = 4. Others I learned from the school of hard knocks. Like why you don’t use a knife when you really need scissors to open a package. But recently I’ve discovered that there are certain lessons that are best taught by a dog.
Yes, that four legged, furry, fluff-ball is more than just a cute face. He’s a patient teacher. Never mind that occasional butt sniff or the whole “eat-your-own-poo” thing… These guys are some of the best lesson teachers I’ve ever known. In my life with dogs, here’s the most important lessons I’ve learned:
1 | Unbridled Joy CAN Be Yours
Dogs are no strangers to joy. Joy oozes from every doggy orifice. There’s joy in their hurried trots. There’s joy in their wagging tail. There’s even joy in their intrusive “hello licks”.
My dogs taught me a long time ago to just give in and let joy take control. When we have joy, even the tiniest things can make us happy. And what is life if it can’t be happy?
2 | Love Often
I’ve never known a dog to live his life without love. Just like joy, love seeps from every pore in a dog’s body. Everything they do for their people is done out of love. Their (sometimes nutty) display when you come home from work? That’s love. The cuddles at the end of a long night? That’s love, too.
3 | Forgive (& Forget) Quickly
They say an elephant never forgets, and I’m glad that’s not true of dogs. We all make mistakes, but I’ve never known a dog to hold one against me for long. I have weak moments when I lose my temper, or worse, forget to take them on potty breaks. Luckily, they forget & they always forgive.
4 | A Little Loyalty Goes A Long Way
Dogs never forget who their family is. I can’t think of a more loyal creature on Earth. Dogs will do anything to protect their family–their pack–even at self-sacrificing costs. That undying loyalty makes them the perfect friend for us humans… and we can learn so much from their bond with us. The pack sticks together. Always.
5 | Never Look A Gift
Treat Horse In The Mouth
Dogs know when they’ve come into a good thing… and they’re never ones to turn down a gift. They gratefully accept each and every toy, treat, kiss, and hug. Old or new. Big or small. No act of kindness goes overlooked by them.
That’s why when Chewy.com offered to send our dogs some goodies, they agreed straight away… sending their doggy love all the way to grand old world wide web.
Teddy and Sami are thoroughly enjoying the Kong Cozie & duck plush toy–they’ve hardly set them down! And they beg for the Evo (Grain Free) Wild Cravings Treats. Thank you so much to Chewy.com for graciously sending these for review.
I can feel good about feeding them Evo treats because I know that products made by Fromm Family Pet Food have never been subject to a recall & their treats are coated with pre and pro biotics. We can never keep our pets too safe! After all, we still have a lot more to learn from them.
Teddy is literally doing flips over these goodies. Can you blame her?
