Today I’m interrupting regularly scheduled beauty content to bring you my quarterly blog check-in! I have seen so much more growth than I anticipated in this first quarter. I am truly blessed. All this hustling is paying off. I was surprised to see just how much I grew my blog between the first quarter of 2015 and the first quarter of 2016.
First Quarter Blog Check-In
How I Grew My Blog During the First Quarter of 2016
In the first quarter of 2015, I had 14,987 page views.
For 2016, I had 121,777 page views in the first quarter. I asked my math-savvy husband to help me calculate how big of a percent increase that is… It’s 712.5%!
My bounce rate went from 81.47% in the first quarter of 2015 to 80.85% in 2016.
Stumble Upon was where 81.29% of my social media traffic was coming from in the first quarter of 2015. During the first quarter of 2016, pinterest was my highest traffic driver with 93.62% of my social media traffic.(so much for diversification this year).
Overall, Pinterest is accounting for 38.6% of traffic to my site. 11% is coming from Google.
The app that I attributed a large part of my growth died in February – TheseReads. I was sad to see it go, but my traffic hasn’t completely tanked, so that’s good.
At the beginning of the first quarter, here were my social media stats:
- Instagram – 1462
- Twitter – 1430
- Pinterest – 1325
- Facebook – 890
At the END of the first quarter, this is where they were:
- Instagram – 1604 (9.7% increase)
- Twitter – 1537 (7.5% increase)
- Pinterest – 3,563 (168.9% increase) !!!
- Facebook – 932 (4.7% increase)
As you can see, my Pinterest account has absolutely taken OFF this quarter. I am working it hard and it’s working for me. See post: Make the Pinterest Smart Feed Love You. P.S. Follow me on Pinterest!
First Quarter Goals – Report Card
I wanted to maximize Pinterest, and so far, so good. I am employing the strategies that I outlined in my Pinterest Smart Feed Post, and a few other strategies that are working well for me.
I also wanted to step back from Instagram. While I don’t think I’ve “stepped back”, I think I’m “stepping smarter”. I don’t put tons of effort into Instagram, but I think because most people hang out there, it’s good to have a presence. However, I HAVE upped my Snapchat game and I am LOVING it. I’ve found that a lot of people are trickling over to snapchat with the pending Instagram algorithm change. Oh, hey. Add me there – MakingMrsM.
Another thing I wanted was to build my email list. Check! I haven’t done anything with it, yet (that’s a goal for the third quarter), but it’s growing daily. Btw – thanks for that, friends!

How did I Grow My Blog?
Well, first and foremost – PINTEREST. I’ve kept that ball rolling because I think it’s nothing but good for me.
Ironically enough, I’ve seen quite a bit of traffic from Google, too. I think as my site matures I’ll see more and more of that. The SEO that I started employing early in 2015 is really just starting to pay off. I think people just don’t give that kind of thing enough time. SEO takes TIME. This is just a hunch, but I would assume Google looks at the age and “activity” of a site when compiling its lists and ranking for SEO.
My social media referrals have also grown a bit: Twitter and Facebook. Funny how when I start to put less effort into something it takes off. More of this in a future post. I’m still ironing out the details.
Nope. Still no follow for follow. Still no blog sponsoring. And, I still believe less is more when it comes to posts per week. I’m sitting at 2 quality posts right now, and I am absolutely loving it.
Any big business changes?
Well, there is one HUGE one. YOUTUBE! Late in the quarter (like, end of March) I decided to really get my YouTube channel going. I’ve wanted to start a channel for the past SEVEN years. No, that’s not an exaggeration. I just never felt like I was in a place where I could do it and do it well. I didn’t have a good camera with video capabilities and I didn’t want to produce sub-par content.
With the support of my husband and an influx of funds (btw – thanks for supporting my sponsored post opportunities… more on that later), I bought a new DSLR with great video specs. I’ve been chugging out the videos and I’ve given myself a 2/wk goal. I post on Wednesdays and Saturdays. If you want to help support me there, I would be forever grateful. You can subscribe to my YouTube channel here.
So… Sponsored Posts?
I mentioned sponsored posts. I know there have been a few more than typical on here, lately. I want to thank each and every one of you for supporting those. I don’t take sponsored opportunities that I feel like you won’t enjoy. I weed through a sea of emails and choose the very best ones for you and for me. I hope you understand that. It takes a lot of time, effort, sweat, and tears to run a blog like this. I’m grateful for the opportunity to earn a side income for all of that effort. I love blogging. I love bringing you information about the BEST products. It’s a win-win for me, and I hope it is for you, too.
I will never agree to a sponsored post on something that I don’t believe in, or think would help you. Also, in the spirit of honesty and transparency, I will always disclose when things are sponsored. Furthermore, when there’s an affiliate link, those are disclosed, too. Full transparency because, honestly, you deserve that.
Blog Goals Moving Forward
I’m laying heavy on the YouTube for the second quarter. I really want to get it up and off the ground. I think a reasonable goal for the second quarter is to average 100 views per video.
A super duper long-term goal I have is to hit 10K on Pinterest. If I could do that by the end of the year I’d be giddy. Like, seriously giddy.
I’m working on Facebook this quarter, too. I’m employing a few new strategies to increase my post reach and so far, so good. Of course, I’d love “fans”, but I’m not focused on that. If you’d like to find me there, here I am!
Thank you so much for being part of this tremendous growth. I truly appreciate each and every one of you. I wish I could reach through the computer and hug every single one of you! As always, I’m open to suggestions. Have a post idea for me? Want to drop me a line? My inbox is always open to you.
