I honestly have no idea how long it’s been since I did a recent favorites post. Probably a billion years. 2016 has been a whirlwind year. To be honest, a lot of it was really crappy… but you know what they say, “when life sucks go shopping!” Maybe they don’t say that, but indulge me, ok? I’m truly excited to share with you some thoughts on some of my favorite products this year. And thus, the 2016 Making Mrs. M MVP Awards were born.
The Making Mrs. M MVP Awards
MVP – Most Valuable Product Awards
So – here’s the deal. I go through a lot of different products. Many products are sent to me to review, and I talk about the ones I like… but many times what I don’t talk much about are the things I’ve used everyday (ish) for the last year. You know, necessities – older stuff – not new releases. So, I want to make this a new yearly thing: telling you about the nitty gritty products that have been loved to pieces – my MVPs.

I don’t think you can get much better than a classic 1″ Chi. They last forever. They’re pretty affordable (get them on sale at Ulta – they have sales all the time). And most importantly – they get the job done day in and day out.
My old hair stylist suggested this shampoo to me because I have pretty fine, limp hair. I bought my first bottle… then my second… and my third… you get the point. This stuff works. It’s easily my favorite shampoo. I change conditioners fairly regularly, but I’ve used this shampoo religiously since I found it in 2015. Sometimes I switch it up for a week or two. Sometimes I condition first, then shampoo for a real volume kick!
I did a campaign on the importance of sunscreen this summer because as a fair skinned person, I know how important it is. I have always worn sunscreen on my face and neck, but this year I really put an emphasis on SPF for my entire body – daily. I love how this one smells and sinks into the skin like lotion. It’s not greasy like other sunscreens.
I’ve tried other scrubs. This one is the best. It has a super fine grit, which I love. It rinses easily and completely. Also, smells amazing.
This product was sent to me for a campaign in August. I had never used a shave oil, but now I’m never going back. Especially since I’ve struggled with dry skin – this shave oil is super moisturizing, easy to use, and really protects my dry skin.
My sister-in-law gave me a trio of Wei masks for Christmas last year. I really liked them all, but the Bee Venom Mask? I need a truckload of it. This one isn’t for the faint of heart, though. It does sting (bee venom), but it works. Like, really works. It lifts, firms, and smoothes any lines.
I’m sorry, but if anyone tells you to spend more than $5 for a lip balm, kick them in their nether regions. I’ve tried a lot, but this oldie-but-goodie is always my go-to. Always. Annnd you can buy it at the drugstore.
When S&G came to Ulta in the states this year, this was the first thing I bought to try out the brand… and then my husband got hooked on it, so I think we’re on our 3rd bottle. I love how this sinks into the skin. It’s not greasy (notice a theme here?). Also – it’s super affordable.
Lorac Palettes (I can’t choose a favorite!)
Don’t make me choose. Every Lorac palette I’ve owned is a winner. They’re pigmented. They have variety. They have great value.
Oooo man. If you’re looking to add just a touch of luxury to your makeup routine, this is the product you need (maybe in a different color if you aren’t fair). Since adding the Ambient Lighting Powder to my makeup routine, I get so many more compliments on my skin.
I hesitated adding this one because it’s a new product, but I really enjoy it. The Body Shop sent me several of these (free), but this one is easily my favorite and I’ll buy it when I run out. It’s such a flattering red. I think it would be perfect for someone looking to get into red lipstick because it’s not super punchy.
Looking for a product to knock your socks off for under $2? Next time you’re at Ulta, pick up this shadow from Essence. Just do it. It’s not an investment. It costs less than your cup of coffee, but you’ll cherish it forever. I wear it not only as an eyeshadow, but as a face highlight. Yep. I do. It does wonders for brightening up the inner corner of the eye, too.
I picked up this blush during the 21 Days of Beauty event. In fact, I got the last 2 (one of me, one for my sister). This is the perfect everyday blush. It’s a great neutral.
Looking to cancel out those dark circles? You don’t have to spend $30+ for an undereye corrector. Just head to Target.
Still loving this. A lot. It’s an everyday product for me. I like to use it as eyeshadow, too.
P.S. Also comes in a mini.
I got these in a Trunk Club this year and I’ve been living in them. Burgundy is a neutral… don’t you know? Also – NYDJ are now my favorite brand of pants and you can find them up to 70% off at Nordstrom Rack!
I am kicking myself right this second… because do you know what I did?? I wore mine to paint my house in – like and idiot. I put these on my wishlist this year because I love them so much. They’re slimming and they’re the perfect opaque black. Also, they don’t cost $100.
My parents bought this for me for Christmas last year and I adore it. I think it goes with everything and it comes in so many color combinations.
Call me simple, but these are the earrings I prefer. Also… I can’t find mine after my move. Send help.
This was another Christmas gift (2015) from my parents. Fun story – when my dog ripped my face open on Christmas Day 2015, I was wearing these shoes and one of the first words out of my mouth were “are my shoes ruined?”
