The stores are a buzz with fresh notebooks and pencils. Students, teachers, and parents alike are gearing up for a brand new school year. I remember buying new things for school was one of my favorite things growing up. Every August my mom would take me shopping for new clothes and school supplies. And as a bonus, we almost always stopped by the cosmetics counter to see what kind of special was going on. *Free Gift* time was my mom’s favorite.
Thinking about those trips made me wonder what kind of cosmetics I’d buy if I were going back to school. Makeup has improved leaps and bounds since I hit the books, so I would imagine that buying makeup for school would be overwhelming and time consuming for those who aren’t beauty obsessed.
There’s also that fact that Back to School is also a time where a lot of folks are strapped for cash, so they need to figure out how to stretch their dollar. That’s where I come in! I’ve put together a group of products that will give you a fresh face for back to school and won’t break the bank, no matter if you’re a teen or an adult.
Set the Stage for a Good
School Skin Year
Take extra special care of your skin. You cannot compensate for abused skin with makeup. The best way to get a flawless makeup look is to start with skin that is taken care of.
- Remove makeup – ALWAYS
- Wash with a gentle cleanser
- Use a toner sans alcohol
- Spot Treat as needed
Back to School Makeup
I think the best makeup for school is fresh and simple. I had a hard time rolling out of bed as a teen, so any makeup I did needed to be quick. I’ve tested the products together and it took me about 7 minutes to complete the look. Back to school ready in a flash!

- CoverGirl Ready Set Gorgeous Foundation
- Pixi by Petra MultiBalm Cheek & Lip Colors in Watermelon Veil and Sheer Sculpt
- Essence Eyeshadow in Snowflake
- Naked2 Basics
- Essence Long-Lasting Eye Pencil in Hot Chocolate
First, I applied the CoverGirl Ready Set Gorgeous Foundation with a damp beauty blender over my favorite makeup primer. Then, I used the MultiBalm Cheek & Lip Color in Sheer Sculpt to lightly contour my cheeks. I used a small stippling brush to blend the color into my skin. Next, I applied the MultiBalm Cheek & Lip Color in Watermelon Veil to the apples of my cheeks and blended with the same stippling brush.
After that, I applied a wash of nude eyeshadow from the Naked Basics 2 palette all over the lid and buffed a bit of deeper brown into the crease with a fluffy blending brush. I carefully lined my upper lash line with Essence Long-Lasting Eye Pencil in Hot Chocolate.
I applied a coat of mascara and then took Watermelon Veil to my lips!
Ta-Da! An easy, fresh face perfect for back to school as a student or adult.
